Working with Surfboards

Before I discovered illustration, surfing was my outlet for creative expression. I grew up in Jeffreys Bay, a sleepy surfing town in the Eastern Cape, where my dad has been handcrafting beautiful, soulful surfboards out of his workshop for close to 30 years. Growing up around his workshop sparked a fascination in the process of making boards and a few years ago my dad I started collaborating. Well, by collaborating I mean he does absolutely everything and I create abstract resin designs just before the board is laminated. I love traveling down to JBay to surf with my family and work alongside my dad on his beautiful creations. Of course I get a kick out of bossing him around his own factory too.
